Cladding installation in cold weather conditions

It can be a real struggle to keep your building project on track as cold weather conditions approach. But just because the temperatures are starting to drop, that doesn’t mean the project has to come to a halt. From protecting expensive building materials and equipment to maintaining a safe jobsite, there are many considerations to keep in mind. The best approach is to be prepared with a solid plan in place.

When planning for the installation of Exterior Insulation and Finishing Systems (EIFS), stucco systems and other acrylic surfacing systems, application of cementitious and acrylic materials is typically recommended at temperatures of 40 °F and rising. This is important for proper curing and overall performance of the products. Application of materials in cool, cold and freezing conditions commonly cause materials to crack, flake, soften or delaminate. The following products are compatible with Senergy Wall Systems and designed to perform in colder weather conditions.

    • Senershield-R/-RS/-VB – a one-component fluid-applied vapor permeable air/water-resistive barrier. Waterproof and resilient, it may be spray-, roller-, trowel-, or brush-applied directly to approved wall substrates. Senershield® air/water-resistive barriers can be applied in temperatures as low as 25°F (-4°C) and rising.
    • MaxFlash – a one-component elastomeric material for use as a flexible waterproofing flashing membrane for rough openings. It can also be used to prepare sheathing joints for subsequent application of Senershield air/water-resistive barrier membranes. MaxFlash can be applied to frost-free, dry substrates above 25° F (-4° C), but curing will not be initiated until temperature rises and remains above 32° F (0° C).
    • MaserSeal AWB 970 NP – a 20-mil thick, self-adhering, self-sealing, composite membrane of polyester fabric and butyl adhesive. MasterSeal® AWB 970 NP is supplied in rolls, on release paper, for easy application. MasterSeal AWB 970 AWB NP must be applied in ambient temperatures above 40°F and be free of moisture or frozen moisture (frost, ice, etc.).
    • CW Alpha Dry Base Coat – a dry-mix polymer adhesive and base coat for use with Senergy Wall Systems during colder weather conditions, including 35–50 °F.
